Our bodies have evolved to help protect us from threats, when we are under attack our bodies release hormones, including cortisol and adrenaline. These make our hearts beat faster, sending blood to our extremities preparing our bodies to run or fight and help us to be alert and react faster to escape the threat. This happens automatically and is often called the “fight, flight or freeze” response. When the threat is over the hormone levels return to normal but if you feel constantly under threat the hormones remain in your body and cause the symptoms of stress, this can impact on your physical and mental health.
How can hypnotherapy help?
Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation and can therefore help with the stress and anxiety, you cannot be anxious and relaxed at the same time. It can also help you to discover the cause of your anxiety, whether that is a physical issue, a past experience or a current situation. We can then work out how you wish to feel when you are free from your anxiety and use different tools and techniques to reach your desired goal. You can learn to feel more confident and relaxed and react positively in the situations which previously caused you to feel anxious.
